Earning the CTD™

A step-by-step guide to becoming a Certified Talent Director.

The Seven Steps to Certification

1

Enroll in an Approved Preparation Program

All CTD™ candidates must complete a preparation program that has been reviewed and approved by The National Talent Board™. Approved programs provide structured training across all six domains of the CTD™ competency framework: Talent Management Foundations, Agency Positioning & Business Operations, Creator Acquisition & Evaluation, Brand Partnerships & Deal Execution, Campaign Fulfillment & Client Delivery, and Agency Growth & Scale.

2

Phase Gate 1: Agency Positioning Document

Submit a written agency positioning document that includes your defined niche, service offer, pricing structure, and target creator profile. This document is reviewed by an assessor to confirm that you can articulate a viable, differentiated agency position grounded in the competency framework.

3

Phase Gate 2: Creator Outreach Evidence

Provide documented evidence of real creator outreach activity. This requires a minimum of 20 genuine outreach messages sent to prospective creators OR a signed creator management agreement. This gate validates that you can identify, approach, and engage creators in a professional manner.

4

Phase Gate 3: Brand Pitch Submission

Submit a real pitch sent to a brand prospect for review by an assessor. The pitch must demonstrate understanding of brand needs, creator alignment, rate justification, and professional communication. This is not a mock exercise - it must be a pitch sent to a real prospect.

5

Capstone: Real-World Demonstration

Complete the capstone by providing evidence of real-world professional activity. Acceptable evidence includes:

  • A signed creator management agreement, OR
  • A completed brand deal with a paid invoice

The capstone proves that you can execute the work - not just understand it in theory.

6

Ethics Acknowledgment

Read The National Talent Board™’s Code of Professional Ethics in full and formally acknowledge it as a binding condition of holding the CTD™ credential. This acknowledgment covers fiduciary duty, transparency, confidentiality, legal compliance, and credential integrity.

7

Credential Issuance

Upon successful completion of all requirements, you will receive:

  • Unique credential number: CTD-YYYY-NNNN format
  • Digital badge: Issued via Accredible (Open Badges 3.0), shareable on LinkedIn and embeddable on websites
  • Physical charter certificate: Mailed to your address
  • Verification listing: Published in The National Talent Board™’s public verification database
